An earthquake of 5.4 magnitude struck an area in southeastern South Korea.

The tremor¹ occurred in an area nine km north of the southeastern coastal² city of Pohang in North Gyeongsang province at about 2:29 p.m. local time (0529 GMT), according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

The weather service revised the magnitude from an initial 5.5 to 5.4 after a rigorous analysis.

The epicenter, with a depth of nine km, was at 36.10 degrees north latitude³ and 129.37 degrees east longitude⁴.

The seismic⁵ intensity⁶ was slightly lower than the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the Gyeongju city, just south of the Pohang city, in September last year.
