Ke Jie, the world's number 1 Go player, has been enrolled¹ at China's prestigious² Tsinghua University.

The seven-time world champion is expected to become a freshman³ in autumn.

The world's youngest Go champion is one of 948 high-performers in sport to be admitted to 85 universities across China without the need to take the gaokao, China's college entrance exams. They were offered the gaokao exemption⁴ in recognition of their achievements in sports, according to a notice released by the Ministry⁵ of Education on Monday.

Despite being able to skip the gaokao, Ke still had to pass an enrollment⁶ exam organized by Tsinghua University in April.

After battling the best in artificial intelligence in competition, the 21-year-old has decided⁷ to skip IT and study business management instead.
