Detective Chinatown 3, which is due out in cinemas on Jan 25, has set the latest record for the fastest box office pre-sale for a Chinese film.
将于1月25日上映的《唐人街探案3》创造中国电影史上预售票房最快破亿纪录。
The film has earned over 100-million yuan or 14.5-million US dollars at the box office within 23 hours when sales kicked off. That's according to Data Beacon1, operated by a China Telecom research institute.
The film, which is the third entry into the 'Detective Chinatown' series, finds two Chinatown detectives Tang Ren and Qin Feng heading to Tokyo to try and track down the mysterious mastermind Q.
Meanwhile overseas, the action-comedy-mystery sequel is set to open in more than 150 theaters and limited IMAX engagements2 in major cities across North America, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Toronto and Vancouver, on January 24, 2020.
Detective Chinatown 3 is one of the widest releases among all Mandarin3 language films in North America in recent years, Martial4 Arts Entertainment reported.
Since the franchise5 was launched in 2015, the Detective Chinatown series has built a big following in China, which includes three films and an online TV series.
The film's official Sina Weibo account recently announced that the cast has been further expanded to contain the "fresh meat" generation of young actors who played in the drama series.
In fact, the performance of these young actors with an average age at 24 years old, disappointed viewers who care more about the well-organized detective story plot rather than good-looking actors.
