Chinanews, Beijing, March 16 – According to the State Statistics Bureau, currently 15 million Chinese urbanites are in urgent need of jobs, including laid-off workers and college graduates. It can be estimated that the employment problem can not be solved in the near future.
Though China has archived quite a lot in its economic development, and more and more job opportunities are available, but they still can not meet the great needs of the people. In 2006 alone, some 11.84 million people were looking for jobs.
Nowadays, more than 100 million farmers are working in cities as migrant workers, who have contributed a lot to China's economic growth. However, the great number of urbanites who need jobs can never be overlooked, either.
By the way, job opportunities offered by state-owned enterprises have become fewer and fewer since 1996. In 1995, 112.61 million people worked in them, while the figure in 2005 was 64.88 million, a 42.33% drop. The situation in collectively owned enterprises is similar, which offered 32.68 million job posts in 1991, while only 8.1 million in 2005, 77.7% fewer.
