Chinanews, Beijing, Mar1. 18 – In a recent survey that investigates how Chinese people think about foreign branded goods, about half (48.73%) of the respondents say they don’t trust foreign brand names.
The survey was jointly2 carried out by the International Herald3 Leader and sina.com website. By March 13, about 2,477 people had taken the survey online. “I once bought a foreign branded cosmetic4 product. After I used it, my skin itched5 and I developed lots of spots on my face. I shouldn’t have used it at all,” said Mr. Li from Wuhan. The experience of Mr. Liu from Heilongjiang was no better either. “I once spent 1,700 yuan buying a foreign branded T-shirt. However, after I washed it, its color faded. I took up the problem with the sales people. However, they refused to give my money back, ” Mr. Liu said. Many foreign brand names are actually fake goods, said Mr. Wang from Nanjing. He once worked in a foreign-funded company and found that it sold many fake products. "Many Chinese customers were cheated," he said. Despite this, 36.79% of the people in the survey say they “still believe” in foreign brand names. “Whenever there is something wrong, foreign companies will recall their products. But domestic companies seldom do so in the same circumstances. If their products are not exposed by media, they will never recall their products, ” said Ms. Liu from Zhejiang. 80.36% of the respondents to the survey think that many foreign companies sell their inferior goods to Chinese customers by taking advantage of their fame. “In the past, I didn’t trust domestic goods. I bought a lot of Japanese products. But in recent years, I found that their customer service quality was bad. One of my colleagues bought a Japanese camera and it broke shortly after. When my colleague tried to ask for a refund6, the manufacturer didn’t do it as they should,” said Mr. Wang from Shijiazhuang.
