Chinanews, Guangzhou, April 10 - According to the statistics by Guangdong Provincial1 Bureau of Statistics, the level of urbanization in the Pearl River Delta2 in 2005 reached the level of the US, Canada and South Korea in 2003. The population of Guangzhou and Shenzhen will reach the critical point in the near future.
It is estimated that the permanent population of Guangzhou will reach 15 million in the next 10 years, when the tolerance3 of both ecoenvironment and resources there will be taxed to the limit. The population of the Pearl River Delta by the end of 2005 was 43 million, about 47% of the total population of Guangdong Province. Obviously, the population crisis will not haunt big cities only. Though the population in the Pearl River Delta has been growing fast, the number of talents there is much smaller than in Beijing and Shanghai. The number of college graduates among every 100 thousand people in the Delta is only the 36% of the figure in Beijing, and 50% in Shanghai, far from enough to meet the demand 点击 ![]()
