Chinanews, Beijing, April 18 - According to a report by CCTV, most people in China believe the baby boom in 2007 is promoted by the arrival of the "Year of the Golden Pig", without knowing that this baby boom, the 4th after the founding of the New China, is inevitable1, no matter what year. In fact, most mothers-to-be don't think that the Year of the Pig plays an important part in their having babies this year, either.
The previous 3 baby booms in China came in the 1950s, 1960s and 1980s. Statistics from hospitals reflect that most mothers-to-be were born in the baby boom in the 1980s. "There is always another baby boom 20 years after the previous one," said an expert. The Institute of Population of the Renmin University of China estimates that the peak of the baby boom will come in 2012, with some 20 million babies delivered that year.
