Chinanews, Wuhan, May 8 - In Wuhan of Hubei Province, several young people with sprays in their hands can usually be seen late at night, scratching drawings or inscriptions1 on walls, particularly on those to be demolished2 soon.
Their paintings are usually hard to understand. On a half-demolished wall near the Shouyi Park, there is a large green pattern of about 1 sq m big. Next to the park, on the wall of Huanghu Mansion3, several blue figures are scattered4. "Most graffiti in Wuhan are done by us," said Yao, a member of JEJ, a famous graffitists group. "We need walls to paint. In the day, we have to watch out for policemen and city order administrators," said Yao. "That's why we often paint at night, and return to take pictures of them the next day." Even night time is not always safe. Two years ago, Yao was caught in the act. He had to pay a fine of 300 yuan, and his painting was ruined.
