Chinanews, Beijing, June 13 - According to a report by Beijing Daily, although Chinese enjoy a relatively1 warm and friendly neighborhood relations nowadays, the gaps between neighbors are widening in big cities, especially in those highly-urbanized ones.
About 52.89% of Chinese say that they will help their neighbors when they are in need, which shows that there are many people sticking to traditional virtues2 in China. About 40.65% think they live in a friendly community, but they don't have close relations with their neighbors. Some 6.46% complain about cold and "hardly bearable" neighborhood, and the percentage is as high as 15.36% in Shanghai. Experts say that the fast urbanization process has widened the interpersonal relations of urbanites, which also cut their dependence3 on neighbors. Besides, the side effects of the market economy, like money worship and egoism, have also contributed to the problem.
