“A friend of mine persuaded me to take the belly plastic surgery,” said Ms. Li, who asked this reporter not to disclose³ her work unit. She explained that she didn’t care about being criticized by others for her taking the surgery, but she was afraid that her work unit might feel uncomfortable if they knew it. On the whole, at present, belly plastic surgery is not widely accepted in society, she said.

She told this reporter that she knew several people had taken belly plastic surgeries, like her.

“Wearing low-slung trousers is very fashionable this year. My belly will look very ugly if I wear this type of trousers. So I finally decided⁴ to take a belly plastic surgery, ” Li said.

In fact, belly plastic surgery was introduced in China three years ago. Since then, more and more people have either taken the surgery or consulted information about it, a medical worker at the Hangzhou Plastic Surgery Hospital told this reporter.

“Nowadays, people are very exacting⁵ about beauty. They will do everything in order to make themselves look more beautiful. Most of the people who take belly plastic surgeries are white collars women,” the medical worker said.

Since summer, the Hangzhou Plastic Surgery Hospital has done 20 belly plastic operations. In addition, many more people have called in for information about belly plastic surgery.

Wearing short blouses has become a fashion in recent years. The belly being located at the golden section point of the human body is a very important point for beauty. So, it makes sense for women to expose their belly to show off its beauty.
