Chinanews, Shanghai, July 5 – Private cars have become more and more popular in Shanghai, but Shanghainese find it more and more difficult to get vehicle licenses2. It is said that averagely it costs more than 40,000 yuan to get a vehicle license1 nowadays, almost as expensive as a low-grade car. What’s more, the price of vehicle licenses has kept rising by 1,000 – 2,000 yuan every month.
Local government will auction3 7,500 vehicle licenses in July, a new high, which might help to suppress the price hike. “I have come to the auction several times, but every time the licenses were sold at a price far more than I had expected,” said Yang, who bought a car several months ago. Quite a large number of cars sold in recent months need licenses, and their needs won’t be met in the next few months,” said an auto4 dealer5 in Shanghai. With the booming of the auto market in Shanghai, actually it might require even harder effort to get vehicle licenses.
