Chinanews, Beijing, August 12 – According to a report of Beijing Evening News, more than 50% of deceased Beijingers died on their deathbed at home last year.
Statistics show that 62,767 Beijingers passed away in 2006, 32,080 of whom died at home or on their way to hospital. “Most of the deceased in downtown areas were killed by cardiovascular diseases, while those in suburbs by cerebrovascular diseases. These diseases are often so fatal that the patients can’t wait to be sent to hospital,” said Zhao Xiaohong, vice1 director of Beijing Municipal Health Administration. Though Beijingers enjoy perhaps the best medicare in China, the fact that more than 50% of them die before going to hospital is really sad. The municipal government should work hard to improve the emergency rescue systems, while the citizens should be aware of how deadly these diseases can be.
