Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 15 – More and more Chinese people have become a member of the affluent1 class today. Their consumption2 power is enormous. Among various kinds of their consumption items, travel is the largest.
According to a report issued on Monday by the MasterCard International, 92.6% of the rich families in China in 2006 spent about 10,000 US dollars in leisure and entertainment activities. Among them, travelling abroad makes up the largest expenditure3 item, followed by going to fitness4 centers, visiting parks, and attending sports or social activities. Over the past one year, 43.3% of the rich went on trips at home at least three times and 30% of the rich went abroad at least three times in a year. Hong Kong is the first choice of travel for these rich people, as the report shows 85.6% of the rich people in Chinese mainland have been to Hong Kong. The other popular destinations include Macao SAR, Thailand, Singapore and Japan. Meanwhile, about 10% of the rich people in China have been to France, Germany or Italy. As economic ties between Hong Kong and the mainland become closer and closer, Hong Kong has also become the most popular place for mainland businesspeople. For businesspeople in Beijing, apart from Hong Kong, the next popular places for their commercial tours are the United States and Singapore, while for Chinese merchants in Shanghai, their next popular places are Singapore and Japan. For Guangzhou businesspeople, however, the next popular places are Macao and Thailand.
