Chinanews, Beijing, August 22 – Shangdong Province conducted a survey on physical exercise of local elementary and high school students last year, finding that 70.6% of them devote too little time to outdoor exercises. Other statistics1 also show that Chinese kids averagely play no longer than 1 hour outdoors everyday, while the figure in developed countries is usually 2 to 3 hours a day.
Nowadays the health condition of Chinese kids is deteriorating2 fiercely, and most of them are nearsighted. Besides, sports can help kids learn the importance of teamwork. Thus Shandong had recently hosted a summer camp for kids aged3 between 6 and 14, where they could enjoy sports to their heart’s content. When leaving the camp, most kids burst into tears. “Here they had a chance of getting close to nature and doing what they wanted to,” said Wang Xiaowei, the organizer of the camp and a professional psychological instructor4.
