Chinanews, Shanghai, September 7 – Shanghai will equip its subway stations with a series of advanced security devices including toxic1 and radiation detectors2 and facial recognizers, according to its safety regulations on rail-transportation.
The safety regulations, the first of their kind in China, have become effective since September 1, Detailed3 stipulations, as to the working time and the places of installation of the required security devices are included in the regulations. For example, explosive detectors should be installed in every carriage, while toxic detectors should be placed in the stations. By 2012, there will be 13 urban railways (including subway) completed in Shanghai, with a total length of 560 km. Rail-transportation will form a complete network with 346 stations and several major hubs. It can be estimated that rail-transportation will become the first choice of Shanghainese in the foreseeable future.
