Chinanews, Beijing, August 9 – According to the National Statistics Bureau, the total length of speedways in China was approximately 45,000 km by the end of 2006, about 20,000 km longer than the figure in 2002.
Currently, speedways are available in all the provinces, municipalities and autonomous1 regions in China except Tibet. 6 of them have speedways longer than 2,000 km. Great achievement has also been made in China’s rural highway construction. By the end of 2006, there were 3.026 million km of rural highways completed in China. 16 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions have rural highways longer than 100,000 km each. Thanks to the rapid development of rural highways, at present, there are 36 km of highway in every 100 sq km in China, 95.8% longer than the figure in 2002.
