Chinanews, Beijing, October 10 – According to the National Statistics Bureau, China had put 250 billion yuan on fighting against pollution in 2006, 87.7% more than the figure in 2002, taking up 1.22% of its annual GDP.
In 2006, more than 60% of the 500-odd Chinese cities under the national environmental monitor network had good air quality, even better than the national 2nd standard, while in 2003, only 30% of them had such clean air. However, China still has to work harder to treat pollution, as the amount of pollutants2 released to the environment is far more than bearable. China plans to control pollutant1 emission3 during the 11th Five-Year Plan Period (2006-2010), but it is not an easy task.
