Chinanews, Beijing, Oct. 16 – The incidence of breast cancer is rising in China again. In Beijing and Shanghai, the breast cancer incidence has reached 0.045% and 0.0549%, respectively, rising by 23% and 31% in ten years, respectively, almost equaling the highest rate in some Western countries.
In a recent report, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention lists breast cancer as one of the major malignant1 tumors that affect women's health in China. The incidence of breast cancer keeps rising in China in recent years. In large cities, due to its high incidence and death rate, breast cancer is listed as the third most common type of malignant tumors among women. Related research shows that among the 13 cities included in the survey, the incidence of breast cancer is the highest among women in seven cities and the second highest among women in four of these cities. According to information released by the World Health Organization, every year there are about one million new cases of breast cancer in the world. In West developed countries in Europe and America, one out of every ten women suffers from the disease and in Beijing and Shanghai, related incidence rate is almost the same as that in Western countries. A recent survey done in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Nanjing shows that in China, most people are not clear about the causes of the disease. Many people do not know how to diagnose breast cancer with self-checking methods. In the survey, only 48% of the respondents can correctly tell one or two potential factors that cause breast cancer.
