Chinanews, Chengdu, Oct. 20 – Twenty-year-old Danish girls Tine and Anne were injured by monkeys in the E'mei Mountain of Sichuan Province. The monkeys attacked the girls in an attempt to seize their cigarettes.
These two girls started their journey in China in early October. On their way up the mountain on Oct. 10, they found two monkeys sitting by the roadside. They thought the monkeys were cute and approached them, but then the monkeys suddenly jumped up to grab1 the girls' cigarettes, scaring Tine and Anne almost out of their wits. They struggled to keep their cigarettes, and the exasperated2 monkeys, started to bite them. Tine and Anne ran away at last, and they were sent to a hospital in Chengdu. The doctors that treated them said the monkeys probably enjoyed smoking and the girls' struggle infuriated them. The doctor said the girls were just slightly injured, and they could be released from the hospital after 2-3 days' treatment.
