Chinanews, Guangzhou, Oct 27 – On Thursday, a group of experts from Guangzhou Xiejia Urological Hospital and Guangdong Sexological Society went to a primary school in Guangzhou and offered a sex education course to some 200 female pupils. Many kids felt uncomfortable with the course. Some kids talked with the experts about some sex issues which they dared not discuss with their parents and teachers before.

During the discussion, Zhu Jiaming, vice1 chairman of the Guangdong Sexological Society delivered a speech about sex to young pupils. In his speech, he tried to explain the “complex” issue to the children with simple language.

Influenced by traditional ideas, Chinese children never discuss sex issues with their parents and teachers. Many parents and even most teachers feel that discussing this topic with kids is quite an embarrassing thing.

So, when the experts discussed about menses in class, many students bent2 their heads in embarrassment3. When the experts taled about the issue that young people tended to become interested in the opposite sex when they reached puberty time, many kids started to laugh timidly.

Most students lack knowledge about physical changes during puberty, about sex reactions and contraceptive methods, said a school teacher.

When this reporter asked students, many kids said they seldom discussed menses or love issues with their parents.

Sexologist have offered much sexual knowledge to middle school students. However, it seems that primary school pupils are neglected on this issue, said Zhu Jiaming.

The problem is not merely caused by people’s blindness to traditional ideas. In many cases, schools have no teaching resources, textbooks or teaching courses set for sex education, Zhu noted4.
