Chinanews, Guangzhou, October 30 – Zheng Yuantao, a gay1 in Guangzhou who came out of the closet to his mother 8 years ago, has the strongest support from his mother, Wu Youjian. Wu is the first mother to support her homosexual child openly in China.
Wu has set up a blog to share her courage and tolerance2 with hundreds of thousands of homosexuals in China, many of whom call her “mother”, too. By now, more than 100.000 people have visited her blog. “My son has dated 3 boyfriends, and both my husband and I are glad to see him find the one he loves. It is really brave of him to say no to the discrimination against homosexuals from the society, rather than just enjoy himself in his little home ,” said Wu. Zheng now works3 as a voluntary editor of a homosexual website. “I came into the open in 2005, when the TV South China wanted to interview Yuantao and I. On the second day after the program was broadcast, the taxi driver recognized us and said that we were really brave,” said Wu to our reporter. "Now I am happy to see that my son has changed the prejudice of quite a lot of my friends with his healthy and optimistic image. I think my blog will help him, too," said Wu.
