Water supply cut off, affecting 100,000 in SW China

CHONGQING, Nov. 4 -- More than 100,000 residents in Chongqing Municipality in southwest China has suffered from water shortage for 24 hours due to a water supply cut-off, local government sources said on Saturday.

The incident was caused by a transformer substation malfunction¹ at a local water supply plant, which occurred at 8 p.m. Friday, the sources said.

The affected² area include Jiangbei District, Yubei District and New Northern District in northern part of the city.

Local government has exerted full effort to repair the water-supply system. So far, other water supply plants in the cityare transferring water to the districts with the aim to rapidly resume water supply for the residents.
