Chinanews, Guangzhou, Nov. 6 - A recent survey shows that in China, about two-thirds of the college students hold a liberal view towards living together without getting married. The percentage points are higher among male students than female students, Xin Kuai Bao reported.

The survey reaches its conclusion after investigating 2,000 college undergraduates in 24 provinces and municipalities across China.

These days, as students cherish freedom and individuality, many college students choose to live together without getting married. In China, many colleges do not have any sex courses for students and school management is rather loose. As a result, students find that they can shack1 up without being punished by school authorities. Although many colleges clearly state that they forbid cohabitation, in reality they won't interfere2 too much as long as the female students don't get pregnant.

In the survey, 12.3% of the students say they have been pregnant once or more than once. Since they do not have much contraceptive knowledge, girl students easily get pregnant or contract some sextually transmitted diseases without even knowing it.

Influenced by traditional values, female students are exposed to heavier social pressure once they stay with their boyfreinds. The survey shows that more than 60% of the female students who once lived with their boyfreinds regretted doing so.

In China, about 33% of college students have had one-night stand, while in the United States, the proportion is 34%, according to a survey done in October this year. The survey was carried out by sexologists in Guangdong Province. By collecting related information from sohu.com and the American Playboy magazine, the sexologists tried to find out how students viewed one-night stand and what their sexual behaviors were.
