At the age of 81, Queen Elizabeth on Monday joined super models Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell and her screen alter-ego Helen Mirren on British Vogue Magazine's list of the world's most glamorous women.
"It's a great compliment. She has a very practical approach to fashion and a great sense of occasion," a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman told reporters.
The style bible said in its December "glamour4" edition that the 81-year-old monarch5 was "as glamorous in her brogues and headscarf in Balmoral (her Scottish Highland6 retreat) as she is wearing the crown jewels".
"Glamour is about how you wear something, not about what you wear," it added.
"You can't buy glamour, and you can't fake it.”
Kate Moss is reported to have told her once at a Buckingham Palace reception "I love the stuff you wear. You have great fashion sense."
Veteran fashion designer Hardy7 Amies, who spent half a century dressing8 the monarch and died in 2003 at the age of 93, once said: "The Queen is very demanding. She knows exactly what she wants. She wants her clothes to be friendly.”
Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, 62, who played her in the film "The Queen", was praised for her poise9 and being as "radiant as a lightbulb, sexy and talented... she dresses perfectly10, too".
The real queen celebrates 60 years of marriage to her husband Prince Philip later this month and next month becomes the oldest reigning11 monarch in British history.
