Nov. 27 - Shanghai will soon introduce China's first ever traffic jam fee-charging system during rush hours in a bid to ease the wosening traffic conjestion in the eastern metropolis1.
According to sources with Shanghai's traffic management authorities, their upcoming "traffic jam fees" will be charged in some of its major downtown thoroughfares, through which they hope to cut down the numbers of private cars and offer more space and faster access to public transporation.
Also in Shenzhen, a feasibility study over imposing2 similar congestion3 fees is also underway and the city is expected to put that into practice in the near future.
