Chinanews, Beijing, Dec.2 – With the effort of the Chinese government on the education of women, both the mindset and lifestyle of Chinese women have radically1 changed. Now they are no longer dependent on men. Instead, they have found their right position in the society, to play an active part in political, economic, social and cultural affairs of the country. Nowadays, Chinese women enjoy a much improved life quality, and they have become more confident and charming than ever.

China is famous for its long-standing history and culture, but discrimination and prejudice were also contained in traditional Chinese culture, and women had no right to receive education in the past until 1913, shortly after the Revolution of 1911 led by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen.

After the founding of New China, compulsory2 education became a responsibility of Chinese women rather than a right.

By 2004, 98.93% of school-age girls had gone to elementary school, nearly the same rate as boys. Girls now take up 47.4% and 45.8% of the numbers of junior and senior high school students respectively. There are 6.09 million female college students in China. 44.2% and 31.4% of postgraduate3 and doctorate4 students are female, respectively.

Besides, there are also various training classes run for women, via which they can become skillful workers.
