Chinanews, Wuhan, Dec. 7 – China’s first College Students Life Education Forum1 was held in Wuhan on Thursday. At the forum, scholars from the Ministry2 of Education and various local educational departments urged Chinese colleges to open life education course for their students as quickly as possible, the Chutian Metropolitan3 News reported.
The concept “life education” first appeared in the United States. The idea was proposed when US was then faced with a high rate of drug addiction4, suicide cases, murder and sex offence cases among adolescents. The goal of life education is to teach students to value and respect their lives, to enjoy the happiness in life and to raise their life quality. “College students face a lot of problems in aspects such as employment, marriage affairs and interpersonal relations. The life education course will help them to have a right attitude towards life and to solve their problems in a right way,” said Zheng Xiaojiang, a professor on life education at Jiangxi Normal University, which opened the first life education course in China. For a long time, Chinese teachers, parents and the whole society have focused a lot on students academic abilities and failed to provide the basic life education to students, said Gu Hailiang, president of the Hubei Research Institute of Political Science Education for Higher Learning. Wuhan University has planned to open a life education course for its students in the next autumn semester.
