Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 17 – In 2006, there were 2,500 women and children trafficking cases occurring in China, with the figure including both domestic and cross-nation trafficking cases, said Zhang Xinfeng, Vice1 Minister of Public Security (MPS), on Friday.
Starting from the 1990s, the number of women and children trafficking cases had increased in China. Faced with this situation, various Chinese governmental departments, including MPS, have strengthened their efforts in cracking down on such cases. Since 2000, such cases have tended to decline at a double-digit rate year on year, Zhang said. In fighting against human trafficking cases, Chinese government had published the developmental program against these cases, emphasizing the protection of the interests of women and children. The State Council has also publicized an action plan against women and children trafficking, Zhang noted2. The plan proposes that the problem should be handled with a comprehensive approach. It stresses that China should take preventive measures in fighting against women and children abduction, that is should save more women and children from human traders and make sure that the abducted3 women or children are well looked after, Zhang said. So far, 28 governmental departments and institutions have joined in the five-year anti-abduction action plan. With its implementation4, the abduction cases, including cross-border abduction cases, have decreased dramatically, Zhang noted.
