Chinanews, Beijing, Jan. 17 – Having spent many years with Chinese millionaires, Rupert Hoogewerf, the British man who made the first list of China's rich, are more skilful1 in doing surveys about them. On January 11, he released the result of a recent survey about Chinese rich people's inclination2 on luxury goods consumption. The survey shows that China's rich people lead a more mature life now, China Youth Daily reported.
The survey was based on another one he made between May and November, when Rupert Hoogewerf investigated the life of some 604 Chinese millionaires whose personal assets all exceeded ten million yuan. Among 191 of these millionaires, their personal assets reached 100 million yuan each. The survey covered nearly every aspect of their life, from foods, clothes, houses, transportation, to asset management, education and leisure activities. Detailed3 information, such as rich people's preference for a particular brand, was also included in the survey. The result of the present shows that BMW is the favorite brand among Chinese rich people, followed by Louis Vuitton, Mercedez Benz and Rolex. Among the top ten brands, half of them are in the automobile4 industry. Apart from these brands, brand names such as George Armani and Cartier also appear on the list. Louis Vuitton becomes the most popular brand name among female millionaires. The result shows that Chinese rich lead a more mature life than before. “Luxury goods have entered into Chinese market for a relatively5 short time and for most Chinese rich, the signs of success are driving luxury cars, buying expensive watches and clothes,” said Rupert Hoogewerf. The survey also shows that traveling, swimming and playing golf are the top three leisure activities among millionaires. In a separate survey, it shows that attending family gatherings6 is the No.7 popular activity among Chinese rich, behind playing tennis and mountain climbing. According to Rupert Hoogewerf, 90% of the Chinese rich in his survey say that family is more important than career and his survey also supports this view: the popularity of family activities jumps two positions in his ranking list compared with last year, showing that Chinese millionaires spend more time with their family members now.
