Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari has returned to Pakistan after receiving medical treatment in Dubai, officials say.

Mr Zardari's office said the president had been advised to rest
He landed at an airbase in the southern city of Karachi.

His departure to Dubai on 6 December for treatment of a heart condition led to rumours¹, denied by officials, that he might resign.

It is not clear when he will resume his duties as president. His office earlier said he had been advised to rest.

A statement last week said that all tests carried out on him had produced results "within normal range".

Pakistan's civilian² government has been under pressure in recent weeks over a scandal involving a leaked memo³ in which officials allegedly sought US help against a possible military coup⁴ earlier this year.

President Zardari, 56, denies any role in the memo.

Pakistan's relations with the US have taken a turn for the worse since the American raid in May which killed al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin⁵ Laden⁶.

Since then, several senior US officials have accused Pakistan of backing militant⁷ groups that carry out attacks against Western and Afghan troops across the border in Afghanistan.

Pakistan has vehemently⁸（激烈地） denied the allegations.
