German car producer Audi AG recalls 850,000 A4 sedan cars worldwide due to possible airbag problems, a Audi spokesman said Thursday.

Because of a software error, airbags might not be activated¹ at the worst case when accidents happen, the spokesman for Audi said in its base Ingolstadt.

In Germany, 150,000 cars, which are produced since the spring of 2012, are affected².

The software needs to be updated, and all affected A4 owners are asked to drive their cars to workshops for a check, according to Audi.

"It will cost about half an hour," said the spokesman.
