Singapore has been ranked the sixth place around the globe in the Global Innovation Index which was released on Monday.
周一发布的全球创新指数显示,新加坡位列全球第六。
Singapore tops in the Asia Pacific region in the annual released index, one place up from the position last year. The country's improved ranking was driven not just by its performance but also adjustment to survey methodology, such as the addition of new indicators1.
Singapore has done well on indicators gauging2 a country's political and regulatory environment, education system and infrastructure3 among others. The city state ranked the 78th on innovation efficiency, which measures how much innovation output a country is getting for its inputs4.
Global Innovation Index 2016, in its 9th edition this year, is co-published by Cornell University, Insead, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This year's index surveyed 128 economies, using 82 indicators to gauge5 both innovative6 capabilities7 and measurable results.
Switzerland, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States of America and Finland have been placed ahead of Singapore as the top 5 in the index, while Ireland, Denmark, Netherlands and Germany follow, including in the top 10 most-innovative economies.
China has been ranked as the 25th place in the index, which marks the first time a middle-income country has joined the highly developed economies that have dominated the top of the index in its nine editions.
