The White House said on Monday U.S. President Donald Trump1 will speak by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, their first call since Washington and Moscow wrangled2 over a U.S. strike on Syrian government last month.
美国白宫方面周一表示,特朗普总统将于周二与俄罗斯总统普京进行电话会谈,这是美国上月对叙利亚政府实行打击导致双方发生争论以来的首次会谈。
According to the daily schedule of Trump released by the White House, the call will be made on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. EDT (1630 GMT).
Trump on April 6 ordered a targeted missile strike at a Syrian military airfield3 in response to a chemical weapons attack in the rebel-held Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun allegedly launched by the Syrian government.
After the U.S. strike, Syrian state TV called the assault an "aggression4" and both Russia and Syria had denied that the Syrian government launched the chemical weapons attack.
The Russian government also condemned5 the U.S. strike against the Syrian government as "aggression against a sovereign state in violation6 of international law."
After the incident, Trump told reporters last month that the United States is "not getting along with Russia at all" and the relations between the two countries "may be at an all-time low."
