The new U.S. ambassador to China has vowed¹ to build up bilateral² relations.

In a video that was released on Monday, ahead of his arrival in the capital, Terry Branstad greeted the Chinese people.

He also branded the Korean Peninsula Issue and China-US trade as his priorities.

The former Iowa governor was confirmed a month ago as President Donald Trump's new ambassador to China but his arrival date has yet to be announced.

He first traveled to China in 1984 and in the following year, hosted President Xi Jinping, then a county leader, during the latter's first trip to the United States.
