Chinanews, Wuhan, November 23 – China and the US have agreed on the opening of the US Consulate2 General in Wuhan, Hubei Province, based on the agreement signed in 1981.
The new Consulate-General will cover Hubei, Hunan, Henan and Jiangxi provinces, but it will not be responsible for issuing visas. Wendy P. Lyle will be the first consul1 general in Wuhan, and she will arrive next week. Ms. Lyle was born in Taiwan. She was a radio announcer back home, and she can speak fluent Chinese. Several years ago, she served in Shenyang and Guangzhou US Consulates-General. According to Cheng Huanwen, a friend of Ms. Lyle’s, she is a resolute3 and graceful4 lady with an easy-going personality. Quite a large number of Chinese people have heard her voice in the tapes of a popular English textbook called “English 900”. The Wuhan US Consulate-General will be officially opened in early 2008.
