Chinanews, Taiyuan, Sept 20 – This year marks the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Taiyuan Satellite Launching Center. On Wednesday, the launching center successfully sent the third China-Brazil earth resource satellite into space. Over the past forty years, the launching center has sent 38 satellites into space, with the launch success rate reaching 100%.
In forty years' development, Taiyuan Satellite Launching Center has been built into a multifunctional launching center. It can send satellites in various modes and serves as a launch directing center, telecommunication1 measuring and control center, and a comprehensive system guarantee center. In the past, it sent one satellite a year on average. Now, its can send ten satellites a year. It had successfully sent China’s first sun synchronous2 orbit meteorological satellite (FY-1), the first China-Brazil earth resource satellite, and the first ocean resource exploration satellite. It had created nine records in China in its satellite launching history. At present, China opens its space launching technology to international market. Taiyuan satellite launching center has begun to take up more tasks to launch commercial satellites for international companies. In the 1990s, Taiyuan satellite launching center had successfully sent 12 Iridium satellites for Motorola Company. The 12 satellites were sent six times in succession, with two satellites being sent at a time. In addition, it had successfully sent four commercial satellites for Brazil and the European Union. By successfully sending the third China-Brazil earth resource satellite into space, Taiyuan Satellite Launching Center has set an example for the South-South cooperation in the hi-tech field.
