Chinanews, Urumqi, Dec. 5 – According to Xinjiang Metropolis1 Daily, 5 wild horses owned by Xinjiang wild horse research institute have been killed since last August, which has aroused public attention to the need for protecting wild horses. The Forestry2 Bureau of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous3 Region has set up a special fund to protect wild horses on Dec. 2.
The wild horse (Equus przewalskii) belongs to the category of first class national-protected animals. Its habitats are located in Xinjiang and Mongolia. Zhu Fude, an official from the Forestry Bureau, said that various measures have been taken to protect wild horses, and warning signs have been posted along the main roads. Zhu said all the money raised by the fund would be contributed to the research institute, and he hoped the public would pay more attention to the protection of the wild horses.
