约翰·济慈（1795-1821），19世纪英国浪漫主义诗人，与雪莱和拜伦齐名。有Ode on a Grecian Urn、Ode to a NIghtingale和To Autumn等传世之作。这段诗只有24行，是他追求美的宣言。
　　A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
　　Its lovliness increases; it will never
　　Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
　　A bower¹ quiet for us, and a sleep
　　Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
　　Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
　　A flowery band to bind² us to the earth,
　　Spite of despondence, of the inhuman³ dearth⁴
