Michael Jackson's estate announced on Monday that it had agreed to sell its remaining stake in a lucrative1 music catalog to Sony Corp. for 750 million U.S. dollars.
迈克尔·杰克逊遗产管理委员会周一宣布,该委员会同意以7.5亿美元的价格将杰克逊在ATV的剩余股份出售给索尼公司。
This means that Sony Corp. will take the complete control of the Sony/ATV music publishing company that began as a joint2 venture between Sony and Michael Jackson 21 years ago.
Through the agreement, Sony will then have a sole ownership of works by The Beatles, Bob Dylan and other hit musicians, including Eminem and Taylor Swift.
Moreover, the agreement is another blockbuster deal the late singer's estate signed to erased3 the singer's massive debts, as well as benefit his mother and three children.
Jackson purchased the ATV portion of the catalog in 1985 for 41.5 million U.S. dollars which he later merged4 it with Sony.
It remained the singer's most lucrative asset at the time of his death in June 2009, though by that point he was hundreds of millions of dollars in debt.
The sale this time does not include rights to Jackson's master recordings5 or songs that he wrote, and the singer's estate will continue to have a stake in EMI Publishing, Inc.
