Chinanews, Beijing, June 22 – A recent report shows that by 2010, China will surpass the United States to have the largest Internet market in the world.
The report was released on Thursday by Price Waterhouse Coopers, a large international consulting and accounting1 firm in the world. Over the past four years, China has invested 100 billion US dollars to build optical fibre cables to improve the infrastructure2 in Internet industry. The network coverage3 density4 increased from 7.9% in 2002 to 27.5% in 2006. It is expected that over the next five years, the number of Internet users in China will increase from the current 105 million to 235 million and network coverage density will also increase to 56.4% by that time, says the report in its global entertainment and media outlook for the year of 2007-2011. As broadband service fees further come down, the number of people that use broadband services will increase substantially. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for broadband use will reach 20.9%. In 2006, broadband services generated 39.4 billion US dollars of business volume and by 2011, it is expected that business volume generated from broadband service might hit 101.9 billion US dollars.
