Chinanews, Beijing, July 6 – According to the recently released1 Blue Book on the Press Industry, there are more varieties of daily newspapers than weekly magazines available in China nowadays.

As early as in 2003, 70 daily newspapers were sold among every 1,000 Chinese, and the figure has kept rising since then, though at a slower pace.

Most daily newspaper publishers in China are located in provincial2 capitals and prefecture-level cities. In 2006, there were 984 kinds of daily papers or magazines available, nearly taking up 50.9% of the total.

The circulation3 of daily newspapers among every thousand people has been growing very fast since 1990 (even at 6% - 10% every year), except in 1993 and 1994, when it dropped slightly. After 2001, its annual growth rate dropped to 4%.

In 2005, averagely 76.84 daily newspapers were sold among every 1,000 Chinese, only 1% higher than in 2004.
