Chinanews, Shanghai, July 6 – “At dusk I stand still at the slope of the mountain, looking at the railroad stretching into my hometown…”

At the time when the Qinghai-Tibet railway has been in operation for one year, a group of Taiwan businesspeople arrived at Tibet, singing the song Sky Road and hoping to find some business opportunities in this region known as "the roof of the world".

In recent years, the government has issued a series of policies encouraging Taiwan people to come to the mainland for more exchanges and cooperation in the agricultural field. Last autumn, an agricultural cooperative project between the mainland and Taiwan was kicked off in the suburb of Shanghai. Many Taiwan businesspeople have come to Shanghai to invest in bioagricultural field. Encouraged by the investing activities, some Taiwanese now even want to go to Tibet in order to cash in on the ongoing1 Western Development Program.

“Why not go to Tibet to open a mineral water factory there?”, a Taiwan businessman, Luo Xiao, recently said to his Taiwan fellow businesspeople. He has introduced the organic rice from Taiwan in Shanghai successfully. Now he wants to persuade more of his fellow Taiwanese to go to Tibet to explore more opportunities.

As Luo said, the mineral water in Tibet is free from any pollution. It might become a good investing project to further promote bioagriculture.

“After the Qinghai-Tibet railway was put into operation, the mineral water industry in Tibet will benefit from it greatly, ” said Suolang Ciren, vice2 general manager of the Tibet Iceberg3 Mineral Water Company.

At present, Taiwan businesspeople have established over ten mineral water companies in Tibet. The shrewd Taiwan businesspeople hope that by applying their sales experiences and investment knowledge, they can help make the Tibet mineral water become a well-known product in other parts of China.

The group of Taiwan businesspeople now were standing4 beside their factories taking pictures. Their factories were located 5,100 meters above sea level. In front of them was the Dang Qu Grassland5 near Lhasa. When the Taiwan people were in Shanghai, they often heard some Shanghainese telling them stories about how Shanghai people went to Tibet to help develop the economy there. Now, the Taiwan people also went to Tibet. They were trying to make some contributions to Tibet in their own way.

After inspecting the situation in Tibet, many Taiwan businesspeople now planned to introduce the Tibetan mineral water to Taiwan.

“Maybe one day, we can see some Tibetan mineral water sold on the chartered flights between the mainland and Taiwan, ” Luo said.

He said that in the near future, Tibetan mineral water might be exported to Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and even to Southeast Asian countries.
