Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 10 – The General Administration of Quality Supervision1, Inspection2 and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said on Thursday that the PG9171E gas turbine generators4 produced by the General Electric Company (GE) had broken down for the second time.
In May this year, the machine suddenly stopped working during normal operation at the Shenzhen Baochang Electricity Generation Company, which imported the machine earlier. The generating set was damaged. Later, GE overhauled5 all the gas turbine generators it sold to the Shenzhen company. Early in June 2006, the gas turbine generators displayed some major problem during normal operation. After applying a general check, engineers from AQSIQ said the electric Type 9A5 generator3 of the generating set had some designing flaw. By that time, China had imported some 24 generators of the same type. AQSIQ then negotiated with GE about the problem. In the end, GE admitted that its products had some designing flaws. The US companiy then made a repairing scheme. After the scheme was approved by AQSIQ, GE overhauled all the 24 electric generators free of charge. At the same time, AQSIQ sent out a notification on banning the import of these machines.
