Chinanews, Beijing, Aug 23 – In a recent interview given to CCTV, Chinese Minister of Commerce Bo Xilai responded to some people's suspicion about the quality of made-in-China products. He believed that products made in China would become more and more popular in global market.

The minister said he wanted to talk about the issue from three points. First, the quality of goods made in China has greatly improved in recent years, he said. Chinese government and companies attach great importance to the quality of their products. Chinese goods, especially those for export, are widely welcomed by consumers both in developed and developing countries. In many countries, consumers know that Chinese goods are made with a high quality but sold at a cheap price. Over the past two to three decades, we not only have raised the quantity of the goods exported, the quality of these goods has also improved greatly. “I think this is the most important thing that I want to address,” he noted1.

Secondly2, the minister said, some problems did arise about the quality of Chinese goods, and they have aroused the attention of the Chinese government and companies. By abiding3 by the directions of the State Council, we promise that we will look into the issue and correct the mistakes. We believe that the incident will only motivate us to do better in future. We take responsibility for the goods we make. Chinese companies are responsible companies and China is a responsible nation. We attach great importance to the quality of our goods. We not only care about domestic consumers, we care about all people around the world who buy Chinese goods. This is because we believe that Chinese economy has become part of the global economy. Under this situation, we need to promote mutual4 trust and cooperation with the rest of the world. In doing so, we must guarantee that the goods we make are of the best quality. Even if the goods recalled now account for only a fraction of the total goods we export, we would still like to do whatever we can to solve the problem. This is our basic attitude towards disqualified goods.

Lastly, the minister stressed, China opposes those who try either to hype up the problem or exaggerate the problem out of all proportions. China opposes those who, driven by trade protectionism, make false claims and overly exaggerate the problem.
