Chinanews, Beijing, Sept 28 – Over the past three years, Beijing people's per capita disposable income has increased by 2,000 yuan. People's living standards have improved and this is one of the positive results as the city is making preparations to welcome the Olympic Games, the Beijing Evening News reported.
In 2006, Beijing's economic aggregate1 reached 700 billion yuan, 10% more than a year before. Investment and consumption both grew to exceed 300 billion yuan. By organizing the Olympic Games, the city has created a lot of new job opportunities for its citizens. In 2006, the totalwork force in Beijing reached 9.19 million, 2.9 million more than that in 2001. Among the unemployed2 people, over 60% have found new jobs. By organizing the Olympic Games, Beijing people's living standards have improved. The average income for Beijing residents has grown at an annual rate of nearly 10%. The city has also made progress in city infrastructural3 construction. From 2002 to 2006, investment input4 in the city's infrastructural construction was 180 percent of that in the 1997-2001 period. Of this, the input allocated5 to transportation increased by 310 percent. In a recent survey that investigated Beijing citizens' sense of happiness, more than 70% of the respondents are confident that China can realize the goal of building a harmonious6 society.
