Chinanews, Beijing, November 30 – China is planning to issue a “Regulation on Travel Agencies”, and now the trial version of the regulation has been released to seek the public opinions.
The regulation clearly states that travel agencies are not allowed to deceive tourists by tagging false price, and they must sign travel contracts with tourists. Travel agencies shall not force or coax1 tourists to do shopping or take part in activities that require extra payment. Besides, the price of package tours should not be lower than the cost of organizing such tours. The regulation also includes items on overseas investments on travel agencies in China, allowing the founding of joint-venture travel agencies, cooperative travel agencies and wholly foreign-owned travel agencies. The lowest capital limitation of 4 million yuan is also canceled. In the past, only the overseas enterprises that were the members of China Tourism Association were allowed to make investment on tourism. After the regulation becomes effective, overseas-invested travel agencies will be able to open their branches in China, too.
