Inflation in the UK slowed last month owing to a fall in transport prices, taking the Consumer Prices Index measure to 3%. 因运输价格的下跌,英国上月通货膨胀率有所下降,消费价格指数降至3%。 The CPI rate - measuring the rise in the cost of living in the UK - fell from 3.5% in March, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said. The Retail1 Prices Index (RPI) measure fell to 3.5% from 3.6% in March. The Bank of England recently said CPI inflation would remain above the 2% target "for the next year or so". The Bank's governor, Sir Mervyn King, said that the rate would stay above the government's target owing to a "storm" in the eurozone creating a threat to UK recovery. The CPI figure was the lowest since December 2009, the ONS said, although the CPI rate was identical at 3% in February 2010. CPI inflation peaked in September last year. It has fallen since then, apart from a surprise rise in March. The inflation figures measure the rate at which prices are rising compared with the same month a year ago. RPI and CPI are calculated differently, and also use slightly different baskets of goods and services. RPI includes mortgage(抵押) interest payments and council tax, for example, while the CPI includes the cost of university accommodation and fees for stockbrokers2. 点击收听单词发音
