More than one million people joined demonstrations1 against government corruption2 in over 200 cities across Brazil on April 12.
4月12日全巴西200多个城市有100多万人参加了反政府腐败的游行示威活动。
Photo shows people take part in a protest against government corruption in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Apr. 12, 2015. They are also demanding a full investigation5 into alleged6 bribery7 at the state-owned oil firm Petrobas.
Other protestors are speaking out against increases in fuel and energy taxes, while at the same time calling for more government investment in infrastructure8.
"We came to protest against the corruption of the state firm Petrobas. They are cornering our government and state-owned companies at a dead end, they are cornering our country at a dead end, and they are cornering our economy and the dignity of the people at a dead end."
"The problem does not lie in President Rousseff, but that corruption makes us unable to trust the government any more. This is the biggest loss."
Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff denies involvement in the Petrobas bribery and has been exonerated9 in an investigation by the country's attorney general.
The Brazilian economy has suffered from growth stagnation10, currency depreciation11 and a host of other problems since last year.
This is the second national protest in Brazil this year.
A turnout of 1.5 million people was seen in protests just last month.
