乌克兰切尔诺贝利核电站附近隔离区爆发一场森林大火。
A large, catastrophic forest fire has hit the surrounding exclusion zone of the crippled Chernobyl power plant Ukrainian authorities say the fire currently doesn't pose any danger to the site itself, which is home to the world's worst civil nuclear disaster back in 1986.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk says the blaze is the worst they've seen in the area in over 2-decades.
"So the situation is under control, but this is the biggest fire since 1992, we haven't seen fires of such volumes. We are working and dealing2 with it and will be informing you on localization of the fire."
While the fire itself is not threatening the Chernobyl site, the fact that it’s in the exclusion zone is raising questions about how to fight it, should it become out of control.
Authorities are investigating the possibility the fire may have been intentionally3 set.
The exclusion zone surrounding Chernobyl was heavily contaminated by radiation following the 1986 meltdown.
