Chinese Premier¹ Li Keqiang has announced new government plans to increase the quality of fuel refining for both gasoline and diesel².

His statement through the State Council says all vehicles in eastern China will eventually use fuel from China's most stringent³ '5th-phase' standards starting next year.

The policy will be carried out nationwide as early as 2017.

Better fuel refining has been highlighted as one of the keys to helping⁴ reduce air pollution in China.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Cabinet has also laid out new plans to increase the import volume of several commodities.

The statement suggests this is going to be done by improving both import and export policies through a better tax system and a more competitive trading environment.

New plans to cut import tariffs⁵ will also be put in-place by the end of June.
